General Education Programs

BRWC's general education programs are outlined below. When conducted in public or private schools, we incorporate some of the Virginia Standards of Learning for K-12 students.

  • Please Read - As we work with animals, we strive to include the mentioned animals in our programming. However, we have transitioned to choice-based training. This means that if an animal is unwilling to participate in a program, we will substitute it with another that is ready to engage.


Wild Virginia!

Get up close and personal with your wild neighbors and learn all about their natural history. This program focuses on animals that live here in Virginia and interesting facts and stories about their lives. Ambassadors may include, skunk, opossum, snake, turtle, or raptor. VA SOLs are covered in this program.


Wildlife in Winter

When it’s that time of year to pull on hats, a warm winter coat, mittens and boots, have you ever wondered what our wild friends do when the temperatures start to dip and winter weather sets in? Learn how animals migrate, hibernate and adapt to survive the harsh winter weather. Ambassadors may include: Turtle, snake, opossum, raptor.


Wings of Wonder

Currently, this program is unavailable. Many of the raptors residing at BRWC are undergoing daily operant conditioning-based training to ensure their comfort and enhance their quality of life under our care. Thank you for your understanding.


Every animal in our area has a unique and important place in its habitat but unfortunately, many animals are denounced because they are misunderstood. Let us introduce you to some of these “misfits” so you can help us dispel the myths about these amazing creatures. Ambassadors may include snakes, turtles opossum, and skunks. VA SOLs are covered in this program.

An entire world comes to life after you go to sleep. Find out what special adaptations many of our area’s nocturnal animals possess to successfully navigate life in the dark. Ambassadors may include, opossums, and a skunk. VA SOLs are covered in this program.
